Early Years
In 1986 while still in his teens, Mingo released his first recordings under the name the Punked out Pansies. Over a four year period, the Pansies music had minimal electronic beats reminiscent of the band Suicide, with minimal to no vocals. Two songs, Johnny Bad and Eroded Cloudiness received airplay on many college radio stations in the Midwest.
By 1990, Mingo disbanded the Punked out Pansies and teamed up with Joshua Lockey. The new duo recorded and performed experimental electronic music heavily influenced by the Chicago industrial sound.
In 1992 Josh Lockey who was known as a local promoter of music and skateboarding events wanted to organize the first rave party in Iowa. After meeting with promoters in Chicago and being put on the guest list to the rave party Razzmatazz, Mingo and Lockey along with Matt Smaldino soon formed a promotion company. For several years they promoted events throughout the Midwest.
During the mid 1990’s, Mingo began creating and performing techno music at rave parties and other events. By the end of the decade Mingo’s sound progressed towards the ambient and space sounds being influenced by acts such as the Orb as well as Brian Eno and Steve Roach.
