Saltwells Secondary School was a secondary school located in Netherton, West Midlands, England. It was built in about 1960 to replace Halesowen Road School - known locally as The Iron School due to its corrugated iron construction.
The school closed in July 1986 due to falling numbers on the school roll, and most of the remaining pupils and staff were transferred to The Hillcrest School.
The school actually closed as a Secondary Modern School in the mid 1970's following RoSLA and the decision to end the tripartate education system in Dudley.
The school which had a PRU on site remained open as a school for the maladjusted only. It did not close because of falling rolls but because Dudley LEA deemed it was not big enough to be economic or to house all the children who would be on the site. The decision was made to close Saltwells and transfer all children to Hilcrest ( a sister school in Simms Lane). This decision was made in 1971. The school began its closure within five years of that date.
20 years after its closure, the school buildings remain in use as the site of Saltwells Education Development Centre - the educational development centre which serves the entire Dudley borough.
