Stoke-upon-Trent in the city ofStoke-on-Trent in the English county ofStaffordshire . TheDomesday Book records it as two hides of land in the Hundred of Pirehill and that it was held byEarl Algar . ["Domesday Book Staffordshire" 1086, Phillimore & Co Ltd, Chichester 1976 ]Penkhull was developed by Herbert Minton as a dormitory suburb of Stoke. The ecclesiastical parish was created out of the parish of Stoke in 1844 [Richard Talbot; "The Church and Ancient Parish of Stoke-upon-Trent", Webberley Ltd, Hanley, 1969 (page 57)] when the church of St. Thomas was built by Scott and Moffatt at the expense of the Revd Thomas Webb Minton. The
