"A Taste of Yesterday's Wine" is an album by American
country music artist sGeorge Jones andMerle Haggard . This album was released in 1982 on theEpic Records label. This was Jones' and Haggard's first album together; their next album together, "Kickin' Out the Footlights...Again", would not come until 24 years later in 2006.In the world of country music, the album represented a summit of sorts; Jones and Haggard were the true disciples of the
Hank Williams andLefty Frizzell tradition. The album was produced by the legendaryBilly Sherrill and featured the backing vocals of Haggard's wifeLeona Williams . Although recorded in the depths of Jones' bad days, the performances were extraordinary, with the singers' voices blending together seamlessly. Highlights include the opening track, theWillie Nelson penned "Yesterday's Wine" ("We're aging with time like yesterday's wine")which went to number one on the country music charts, as well as the Haggard original "I Think I've Found A Way" and the heartfelt "After I Sing All My Songs." The album also features a couple of tributes to the singers, including "Silver Eagle," written by Freddy Powers and Gary Church about Haggard, and "No Show Jones," written by Jones and Glenn Martin and dealing with Jones' notorious inability to make concert dates. The single C.C. Waterback was also a top ten hit."A Taste Of Yesterday's Wine" features two country music legends in their prime, singing straight from the heart without pretension and strictly for the love of the music. It remains a classic collaboration in country music.
