Richard MacGillivray Dawkins (1871-4 May 1955) was a British archaeologist. He was associated with the British School at Athens, of which he became Director. [From 1906 [http://www.swan.ac.uk/classics/staff/dg/bsa/bsastud.htm] to 1914.]
He took part in the dig at Palékastro [http://www.bsa.gla.ac.uk/archive/exhibs/pkcent/index.htm?main] , and the survey of Lakonia [http://www.zorbas.de/maniguide/indmod.html] (see Artemis Orthia; also at Rhitsona, [http://www.rdg.ac.uk/Ure/history/Sabetai_2006.pdf] ). He undertook linguistic fieldwork in Cappadocia 1909-1911, which resulted in a basic work on the Cappadocian language. Then he led a dig at Filakopí from 1911 [http://www.bsa.gla.ac.uk/textonly/history.htm] .
