GLOBIO

GLOBIO is the registered name for the American non-profit charity the Foundation for Global Biodiversity Education for Children. It was founded by award-winning environmental photographer Gerry Ellis in 2001. Based in Portland, Oregon, USA GLOBIO develops both internet-based and hands-on educational resources to engage children in discovery and understanding about issues of biological and cultural diversity.

Web resources developed by GLOBIO include Glossopedia - a free online multimedia encyclopedia - that is designed specifically to be child-safe and kid-specific in content and design with support materials for educators on a variety of topics of interest to children around the world. Recently GLOBIO added a "Our Voice" a kid-only posting place where kids can share thoughts and ideas about a posed "question of the week" with other kids.

GLOBIO is currently running off of a grant from the Toyota USA Foundation as well as from private donations. Partners include the Wolong Nature Reserve in China and Folkmanis Puppets

GLOBIO also operates and develops the Visual Archive and Resource Center, ARC, as an expanding repository of visual and audio rich-media on the life and environments of earth. VisualARC content is used principally in the development of Glossopedia and other educational resources used by GLOBIO.'
