German submarine U-501

"U-501" was a German World War II Type IXC U-boat commissioned on April 30 1941 and served with 2. Unterseebootflottille (U-Boat Flotilla) from April 30 1941 to September 10 1941.

U-501 completed one patrol and sunk one ship totalling GRT|2,000|first=yes. U-501 was sunk on September 10, 1941 in the Denmark Strait south of Angmagsalik, Greenland by depth charges and ramming from Canadian corvettes HMCS "Chambly" and HMCS "Moosejaw". Eleven of U-501's crew members died and 37 survived the attack.
