- Traction Boulevard
Traction Boulevard is an old road on
Long Island built for the sole purpose of providing a route for atrolley car betweenPatchogue andHoltsville, New York ,USA .Route description
The three roads that originally carried the trolley line between Patchogue and Holtsville consisted of South Ocean Avenue, North Ocean Avenue, and what today is Old North Ocean Avenue. The rest of the road crossed Canaan Lake and moved northwest. North of the
Patchogue Highlands area, the road was abandoned, and much of it was sold to both private and public develpers later on in the 20th Century. The Town of Brookhaven installed a landfill on part of the former road, with a portion of it left as an entrance at Blue Point Road. The landfill was transformed into a Town Park in the early-to-mid 1970's and an old trolley car was mounted on the right of way in order to preserve its memory. However it suffered frequent demolition by vandals and was eventually removed.
