Goosnargh inLancashire ,England . It lies at the intersection of the roads fromLongridge toGarstang and from Broughton to Beacon Fell. The village name means 'white fire', from the Gaelic "aingeal" meaning 'fire'. It is thought to refer to
will-o'-the-wisp s that were once prevalent on thevillage green . The green was, until the 19th century, the site of cattle and sheepfair s, and contains amarket cross . The road names of "Button Street" and "Silk Mill Lane" indicate other industries that once thrived near the village. The village smithy closed in 1992. The building opened as a
café for several years but has now closed. Thepublic house s "The Queens Arms" and "The Black Bull" closed early in the 20th century, but "The Green Man" is still open.WICE ( Whitechapel and Inglewhite Community Enterprises ) has recently been formed as a community organisation to raise funds and build an all-weather sports facility for the use of the Whitechapel School and the community.
