] when it was founded by Luc Levesque in 1997, although many Internet users of the time did take advantage of simple Home Page hosting services to share their own individual travel experiences. TravelPod's claimed launch date of 1997 actually represents a beta of the site intended for family and friends of Luc Levesque. The earliest public launch of TravelPod listed in the Internet Archive is late 1998/early 1999. TravelPod has been part of the Expedia group since 2006.

In late 2005, TravelPod enabled its users to submit photos by mobile phone devices, also known as moblogging. TravelPod allows travellers to notify family, friends and other travellers whenever they update their blog. TravelPod also gives its members the possibility to password-protect their blog.
