Sakhalin ,Russia located 2 km east ofSmirnykh . It appears in June 1966KH-7 imagery with a runway length of 2000 m. It was expanded sometime after this to 2500 m with a new extension of revetments added. An ICAO report on the downing ofKorean Air Flight 007 indicates that it was carried out by the PVO (Soviet Anti-Air Defense) in 1983 and hostedMiG-23 fighter aircraft.
