Exeter TMD is a railway Traction Maintenance Depot situated in
Exeter ,Devon ,England , next to the city's main St Davids station. The depot is operated byFirst Great Western .There are 12 roads, the Traction Maintenance Depot (TMD) can hold 2 sets of nowrap| 2 × 23 m vehicles. Behind a remaining wall from the previous Steam shed is where the Civil Shed is located, and the Premier shed (seldom used) is nearest the station.
History
An engine shed was opened at Exeter by the
Bristol and Exeter Railway when it opened the line to here in 1844. A second facility was added a few years later by the South Devon Railway and the two were eventually combined under theGreat Western Railway .Allocation
The current allocation of FGWs Regional fleet are allocated to Exeter:Fact|date=August 2008
Class 142:Units 001, 004, 009, 028, 029, 030, 062, 063, 064, 067, 068, 070.
Class 150:Units 213, 219, 221, 229, 232, 233, 234, 238, 239, 243, 244, 246, 247, 248, 249, 261, 263, 265, 266, 278, 279.
Class 153:Units 305, 318, 329, 361, 368, 369, 370, 372, 373, 377, 380, 382.
The 142 fleet which operates the services on Suburban and Stopping services from Exeter St Davids (to Barnstable, Exmouth and Paignton) visit the shed every night for refuelling, along with a few of the allocated 153s and 150s. A Majority of the 150s and 153s have their refuelling and exams carried out at Bristols St Philips Marsh Depot and Plymouths Laira Depot even though they are based at Exeter.
Future:Five 142s shall be returning up north in December 2008, which should be the remaining unrefreshed examples. The St Philips Marsh based 143s shall be returning back to Exeter, so as to concentrate FGW's Pacer fleet to the Exeter Suburban and Local services. With the opening of a new servicing shed at St Philips Marsh Depot due later this year, the majority of FGW's Class 150s will be reallocated to Bristol for maintenance. It is not known at present whether or not the 143s will be refreshed when reallocated to Exeter to bring them inline with the Class 142s.
