Jack Phillips
Jack Phillips was born in Farncombe. He continued working as the ship sank, trying to contact other ships that might be able come to the assistance of the "Titanic". [ [http://www.gdrs.net/titanic/titanic%20radio%20page.htm Titanic] ] Phillips is commemorated by the Phillips Memorial Garden in Godalming, and a memorial in the St. John the Evangelist Church in Farncombe. "The Jack Phillips" pub in Godalming High Street is named after him.
