Canon Slade School is a Church of England secondary school on "Bradshaw Brow" in Bradshaw, in the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, Greater Manchester, England.

Admissions

The school is a Designated Performing Arts College. Having an area of convert|55|acre|m2 the school has a wide range of facilities, catering for 1700 plus pupils.

Canon Slade is a Voluntary aided school in partnership with Bolton LEA and the Diocese of Manchester. The school is also a DfES Leading Edge School and Training School.

History

The school has a long history since 1855, when it was founded by Canon James Slade as the Bolton Church Institute, who thought all children should get a "proper" education so set up this school for the poorer children of Bolton. It became a grammar school, then a comprehensive.

In December 2004, the acting Head of Music [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/4085623.stm Stephen Bell] was jailed for three years for dealing cocaine.

150th anniversary

The school celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2005 with a ceremony held at the Bolton Arena. A range of items including a brief history and a whole school photograph have been produced to commemorate the occasion.

ixth form

The school has a sixth form on site which is headed by Mr Cantley. The sixth form has its own building and canteen which caters for around 200 students.

Academic performance

It gets excellent A level results, better than many grammar schools. Its GCSE results are also the best for comprehensive schools in Greater Manchester.
