- Arthur Floyer-Acland
Lieutenant-General Arthur Nugent Floyer-Acland CB, DSO, MC, DL (7 September 1885 – 18 February 1980) was a British soldier.
The son of John Edward Acland and Norah Letitia Nugent Bankes was educated in
Blundell's School , Tiverton. Born Arthur Acland, he changed his name to Floyer-Acland in 1928.He fought in the
First World War , receiving theMilitary Cross in 1915. He was further mentioned in despatches seven times and was decorated with theDistinguished Service Order and theCroix de Guerre in 1918. While fighting in the Waziristan Campaign in 1937 and 1938, he commanded the3rd Infantry Brigade asBrigadier .In 1938, he became
Major-General in the service of the43rd Wessex Division ,Territorial Army and laterLieutenant-General in the service of theDuke of Cornwall's Light Infantry . Floyer-Acland fought in theSecond World War , and wasMilitary Secretary to theSecretary of State for War from 1940 to 1942. Invested as aCompanion of theOrder of the Bath in 1940, he becameHigh Sheriff of Dorset in 1953 andDeputy Lieutenant of Dorset in 1957.On 6 December 1913, he married Evelyn Stafford Still, daughter of Stafford Still. His only son was
Stafford Nugent Floyer-Acland .References
