Nick Etchells is an Australian journalist.
Etchells is currently Melbourne Correspondent on Sunrise.
Nick joined A Current Affair in December 2007 after an extensive career in news reporting.
In the past decade he has covered every imaginable type of event from the Inquest into Princess Diana's death to the violent breakdown of the Solomon Islands and the red carpet of Hollywood's Golden Globe Awards. He has interviewed luminaries from all walks of life including Richard Branson, Naomi Watts, Mohammed Al Fayed, Russell Crowe, John Travolta, Shane Warne, Toni Collette and many more.
From 2004 to 2007 Nick was a senior reporter for Seven News based in Melbourne. During this time he filed hundreds of stories of national and international interest including the Beaconsfield Mine collapse, Cadel Evans' historic Tour de France campaign, the hanging of Van Tuong Nguyen in Singapore and England's 'Suffolk Ripper' prostitute murders. In February 2007 Nick returned to Australia from Los Angeles where he worked as the Seven Network's U.S Correspondent.
Nick's early career began in Queensland. After completing a business degree at the Queensland University of Technology he was recruited by WIN Television Rockhampton. From there he moved into radio news, with Brisbane's 4BC, and back to television with Ten News Brisbane where he spent two years as senior court reporter.
Nick brings an eclectic life experience to his reporting having grown up in England, completed school in Australia, played ice hockey for a year in Canada, and worked in the USA.
In November 2011, it was announced that Etchells is moving back to the Seven Network where he will be replacing his girlfriend Nuala Hafner as Melbourne Correspondent on Sunrise as Hafner is returning to University to complete her Psychology degree.
