Isaac Williams, Jr.

Isaac Williams Jr. (April 5, 1777 - November 9, 1860) was a United States Representative from New York. Born in Goshen, Connecticut, he received a limited schooling, and in 1793 moved with his father to Otsego County, New York. He was appointed undersheriff of Otsego County in 1810 and in 1811 was appointed sheriff by the council of appointment and served until 1813. He successfully contested as a Democratic-Republican the election of John M. Bowers to the Thirteenth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of William Dowse and served from December 20, 1813 to March 3, 1815. Williams was elected to the Fifteenth Congress and held office from March 4, 1817 to March 3, 1819; he was then elected to the Eighteenth Congress, holding office from March 4, 1823 to March 3, 1825. He was an unsuccessful candidate for sheriff in 1828, and in 1860 died in Cooperstown. Interment was in Warren Cemetery, Otsego.
