Established in 2004 as the publishing arm of the
Texas State Technical College System , [http://publishing.tstc.edu TSTC Publishing] is a provider of high-end technical instructional materials and related information to institutions of higher education and private industry.The full-time staff at TSTC Publishing currently consists of a publisher, departmental secretary, editor, and graphics specialist. In addition, 10-15 graphics and editorial interns per semester from Texas State Technical College Waco and Baylor University work in the office.
TSTC Publishing's first two books--"Basic Electronic Troubleshooting for Biomedical Techncians" by Nicholas Cram and Selby Holder and "Introduction to Software Debugging Using Visual Studio" by James Treadway--were published in August 2005. In the following year seventeen additional books on a variety of topics--biotechnology, computer networking, math, dental assisting--were published. At current staffing levels, it is anticipated that TSTC Publishing can publish 15-20 books a year.
Book projects presently fall into three basic categories: technology forecasts focusing on emerging technologies that may impact the curriculum and program offerings at Texas two-year colleges, general use textbooks, and custom textbooks tailored to fit the needs of specific instructional programs. In addition, other types of materials are produced: free public-domain ebooks, the twice yearly journal "Best Practices", and a variety of marketing/promotional materials.
