Special visceral efferent

Special visceral efferent

Special visceral efferent (SVE) refers to efferent nerves which supply muscles which derived from the branchial arches. [NormanAnatomy|cranialnerves]

Some sources prefer the term "branchiomotor", [ [http://cancerweb.ncl.ac.uk/cgi-bin/omd?branchiomotor+nuclei Definition: branchiomotor nuclei from Online Medical Dictionary ] ] or "branchial efferent".cite web |url=http://www.ana.ed.ac.uk/anatomy/humat/notes/embryo/nervous/rhombencephalon/rhomben.htm |title=ana.ed.ac.uk |accessdate=2008-02-17 |format= |work=]

Examples

Examples of nerves that contain SVE fibers include the trigeminal nerve, the facial nerve, the glossopharyngeal nerve, the vagus nerve, and the accessory nerve. [Mehta, Samir et al. Step-Up: A High-Yield, Systems-Based Review for the USMLE Step 1. Baltimore, MD: LWW, 2003.]
