History
Originally founded in 1977 and named Program for the Introduction and Adaptation of Contraceptive Technology (PIACT), PATH broadened its purpose and changed its name in 1980 to Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH).
Funding and purpose

PATH's budget for 2008 is US$218 million.PATH uses this funding to work on a wide array of emerging and persistent global health issues, including emerging and epidemic dieseases such as HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria; maternal and child health; and reproductive health.

2005 , Dr. Christopher Elias, PATH's president and CEO, was chosen as the Schwab Foundation's Social Entrepreneur of the Year in the United States.
