Jagodin Mala

Jagodin Mala is a neighborhood of Niš, Serbia. It is in Niš municipality of Crveni Krst and Pantelej.

Location

Jagodin Mala is located in the central part of Niš. It is flat and bordered on the south by the river of Nisava, on the east by neighborhood of Durlan, on the north-east by neighborhood of Pantelej.

Characteristics

Jagodin Mala is one of the oldest neighborhoods of Nis. It dates back to Roman times. The neighbourhood lies over an important archaeological site. Ruins of several early Christian sacral objects have been uncovered.

During the Ottoman rule the neighborhood was situated on the place where an important road to Jagodina entered the city, hence the name. The term "Mala" is derived from "Mahala", Turkish word meaning neighborhood or a part of the city.

The neighborhood is mostly residential. Individual family houses and small shops making up the most of it. Notable exception is a Nitex, textile industrial area.

Future development

There is a plan of construction of new city park in the neighborhood.
