Shoreview, Minnesota, United StatesNick Horvath (born February 18, 1981 in Shoreview, Minnesota) is a naturalised New Zealand professional basketball player, originally from the United States, currently playing for the NZL NBL team Manawatu Jets.
Horvath attended Mounds View High School (Arden Hills, Minnesota) where he led the Mustangs to state tournament appearances in 1998 and 1999 where they captured the 1999 AA State Championship. Horvath was also named the 1999 Minnesota Mr. Basketball.[1]
Horvath played college basketball at Duke University from 2000 to 2004, where he was a part of the 2000-2001 NCAA championship team. He was team captain in 2003 and 2004. Horvath double majored in Physics and English.
Following college, Horvath began playing professionally in Australia. He averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds a game for the West Sydney Razorbacks in 2005 and 19 points and 8 rebounds a game for the Adelaide 36ers in 2006. Horvath signed with the South Dragons for the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 seasons where he won an ANBL Championship in 2009.
Horvath earned the naturalised spot on New Zealand national basketball team to compete in the 2008 Olympics after averaging 17.5 points and 9.2 rebounds for the Wellington Saints in the New Zealand NBL.
During the 2011 season Horvath led the NZ NBL in rebounding with an average of 11.7 rebounds per game.
He is the only player to have ever won an NCAA Championship (2001), an ANBL Championship (2009), and an NZ NBL Championship (2010).
He currently teaches physics at Palmerston North Boys' High School.
