Andrew Barron (skater)

Andrew Barron (born May 2, 1951 in Penrith, England) is a former ice speed skater, who represented Canada in two consecutive Winter Olympics, starting in 1972 in Sapporo, Japan. Barron is a resident of Calgary, Alberta.

Barron was employed by the Canadian Amateur Speed Skating Association (C.A.S.S.A. now .S.S.C. Speed Skate Canada) in the positions of Junior National Team Coach/Development Officer, followed by Technical Director, then National Women’s Team Coach 1984 – 1988, and finally by National Team Coach, working out of the Olympic Oval in Calgary.

Barron was an Olympic Coach (Long Track) in 1988 in Calgary and 1994 in Lillehammer, Norway (Short Track).

In 1990 he moved to employment by the University of Calgary in a coaching and then consulting position up until 2000.

In April 2000 Barron returned to his original training as an educator and has taught, until the present, for the Calgary Board of Education in Calgary, Alberta Canada as a Junior High School teachers.

Barron is married with two children and now participates in multiple sports as a recreation. He is currently an instructor/student with Calgary Aikikai, under Yas Inaba 6th Dan Aikikai where he holds a Shodan (Black Belt) rank.
