They are owned byCumulus Broadcasting .The call letters are said to stand for both "Kalamazoo FM Radio" and "Keener Fourteen," as WKFR were the longtime calls of former sister station AM 1400 in Battle Creek during the 1960s and 1970s as Top 40 "Keener 14".
