Limeirão, Cape Verde

Limeirão (also in São Vicente, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: "Limeron"), is a village located in the northcentral part of the island of Sao Vicente, Cape Verde, it is located approximately 4 km east of the island capital of Mindelo. It is linked with a major road linking Mindelo and Baía das Gatas. It is one of the cities that has no information online at Mindelo Infos (see http://www.mindelo.info).

Geography

The area around Limeirão is very arid and rocky, grasslands dominate the low-lying areas and partly in the mountains. The hills and mountains surround the area while Monte Verde covers the eastern portion. Its farmlands are around the village and sporadically in the countryside and around the village. Forests are trace and it includes palm and several other types of trees. The farm size is very small and they are the size of the farm is only the equivalent to almost the basketball or a volleyball field.

A part of the houses were built in the late-20th century, most of the older homes are built with mud and brick as well as stone. The living standards are in the middle range as well as its income, one time, there were no money until the mid-20th century. The village is near the island's middle class. A part of the population are farmers and are based in agriculture where banana plantations, pineapple, livestock and other crops including fruits and vegetables are common, the rest works in shops, ports and other businesses. Electricity as well as communications, other necessities and phone lines arrived between the mid to late 20th century but not all homes receive especially in the countryside and is the last on the island.
