The Hopkins Music Department is one of the strongest in the state of
California , with the school's concert and jazz bands have receiving high ratings at festivals since 1985. The bands have received first place awards at theMusic in the Parks festival in Anaheim,California six times. Hopkins has a new string orchestra program which has also received high ratings, with both the intermediate and advanced orchestras receiving superior ratings at the California Music Educators Association Orchestra Festival in May 2007. The Advanced Orchestra received a rating of 99 out of 100 at this festival, the highest of any junior high or high school group performing.Field Trips
The school runs annual field trips to both
New York City andWashington, D.C. The New York trip is organised by the drama department and includes visits to famous landmarks and building such as theStatue of Liberty ,Empire State Building , and theRockefeller Center and features a student performance at a New York theatre. The Washington D.C. trip allows eighth grade students to visit their congressmen, representatives, and notable landmarks such as theVietnam Memorial ,Arlington National Cemetery , and theSmithsonian Institution References
