The A240 is a part primary A road in Surrey and Greater London , It connects the A217 with the A3 and beyond to Kingston upon Thames. It can be used to access parts of Greater London whilst avoiding the congested A24.

Route

Starting at the A217 on the North Downs the road strikes out North West through Great Burgh as a single carrigeway primary road, through a cross road junction with the B2221. After further junctions with the B291 and B284 the A2022 joins from the east. The road crosses the Sutton and Mole Valley railway Epsom Downs branch line and shortly afterwards the A2022 leaves westbound. It now enters a short stretch of open space, before returning to a more suburban setting.

After meeting the A24 it runs concurrently with that road as the Ewell Bypass and becomes a dual carriageway. At another crossroads, the A24 heads off north (the B2200, whilst the bypass continues as the A240 west over the railway line through Stoneleigh railway station before meeting the B284 again. It then crosses the A3 at the Tolworth junction, a grade separated roundabout.

Now as a non primary road and a single carrigeway road again, it proceeds north westerly with the A3210 exits west and the A240 crosses the South Western Main Line by Surbiton railway station. In Surbiton it has two junctions with the B3363, then it turns due North has a junction with the short link road B3365 before it terminates on the A307 in Kingston town centre.
