- Ernest Barker
Sir Ernest Barker (
September 23 ,1874 –February 17 ,1960 ) was a British political scientist. He became in 1928 Professor of Political Science at theUniversity of Cambridge , being the first holder of the chair endowed by theRockefeller Foundation . He received a knighthood in 1944.From a working-class background in Woodley,
Cheshire , he won a scholarship to theUniversity of Oxford . He was a don at Oxford, and spent a brief time at theLondon School of Economics . He was Principal ofKing's College London from 1920 to 1927.He married Olivia Stuart Horner in 1927.
