[ [http://nytimes.theatredirect.com/Gen/Buzz_Video.aspx?ci=546617 Opening Night: Inherit the Wind, Video Feature: Broadway.com Buzz ] ] The production of "Inherit the Wind" opened at the Lyceum Theatre onApril 12 and enjoyed a 10-week run to a capacity house. Inherit the Wind was nominated for four Tony awards including best revival. Also Benjamin Walker was Andrew Jackson in the Alex Timbers' musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson (December 2007) in the show's world premier at the Kurt Douglas Theater in Los Angeles, CA (Culver City). BBAJ is the musical biograph of Jackson, the rise of populism in colonial American politics, the relocation and forced migration of the native American tribes, and the Iraq war. The music, written by Michael Friedman, is emo-style rock with much of the music played by the talented cast themselves. Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson is described in the LA Theatre Group's [http://www.centertheatregroup.org/tickets/productiondetail.aspx?id=3198] blurb as a "redefining of the seventh president." That is, of course, colossial understatement. Benjamin Walker as Andrew Jackson is an iconoclastic thespian dynamo, equipped with two sidearms and a tenor vocal that can crack your bifocals.
Cast as the Chevalier Darceny, in the April 2008 Roundabout Theatre's production of "Les Liaisons Dangereuses " directed by Rufus Norris and starring Laura Linney, Ben Daniels and newcomer to Broadway, Mamie Gummer, "et al," Benjamin Walker is the inexperienced lover who becomes the sex pawn of the pernicious La Marquise de Merteuil (Linney) and whose duel with foils with Le Vicomte de Valmont (Daniels) - fight direction by Rick Sordelet- is Valmont's final, and terminal, redemption. Described as the "definitive battle of the sexes" by Broadway World [http://baltimore.broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=27476] the production enjoyed a capacity house and was nominated for six Tony awards.
Will Frears' short narrative film, All Saint's Day (2007), starred Benjamin Walker in a central role, ran at Tribeca, Sarasota, and SCADs film festivals. The film was the Savannah College of Art and Design winner for the narrative short category. The plot is through the eyes of Walker's character as the participants of Halloween night's revelery straggle home.
