Steve Radford

Steve Radford (born 1957) is a British politician, and is the current leader of the Liberal Party.

Radford is also a long-standing Liverpool city councillor, representing Tuebrook and Stoneycroft Ward. He is leader of the three-strong Liberal group on Liverpool City Council.

Radford has been the Liberal candidate in three general elections for the constituency of Liverpool West Derby. In 1997 and 2001 he came second, behind the Labour winner but ahead of the Liberal Democrat and Conservative candidates. In 2005 he came third.

In 2005, Radford was elected President of the Liberal Party after the previous leader, the former MP Michael Meadowcroft stepped down from the post.

Radford has spoken on platforms including "Stop The War", "The Democracy Movement", "NO2ID", and "Stop CPOs". He is openly gay [http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/0100regionalnews/tm_headline=bnp-plans-poll-push&method=full&objectid=18861596&siteid=50061-name_page.html] and has also spoken on behalf of Liverpool's "Gay Village Business Association".

0n 27 October 2007, Radford spoke at the London Rally for a vote on the European Constitution. A day later he appeared on the live BBC1 show 'Big Questions', debating the UK Police DNA database.
