- KE family
First discovered by the genetiscist Jane Hurst, the KE Family has a genetic mutation that causes them to have speech problems. A team of geneticists made a study of this family in 1998 to try to pinpoint a gene responsible for language production. Some argue that the gene identified,
FOXP2 is responsible. Others argue that their difficulty in speaking is not the result of a problematic language-specific gene. This argument is based on the fact that in addition to problems with speech and grammar, they also have trouble with certain motor skills.Additional reading
