The College of Technology and Aviation was established in
1991 as a result of the merger of theKansas Technical Institute withKansas State University . It offers two and four year programs in the fields of engineering technology andaviation , consisting primarily of associates and bachelors degrees in mechanical and construction engineering technology, electronic engineering technology, computer systems and web development technology, and airway science in the form of professional pilot and aviation maintenance degrees. The academic programs are centered around a hands-on philosophy that blends theory and application in an effort to prepare students for real-world situations in their field of study.Approximately 1,000 undergraduate students are enrolled in the College of Technology and Aviation. The college regularly places more than 95 percent of its graduates. The college complies with FAA Part 141 requirements for flight training. Courses of study cover FAR Part 135 operations, airline operations, crew resource management, aviation history, and an aviation safety minor [http://www.salina.k-state.edu/aviation/safety.htm] . The KSU-S aviation program competes annually in
National Intercollegiate Flying Association safety contests. With the exception of the glider and helicopter program, they exclusively fly aircraft made inKansas (Cessna andBeechcraft ).
