High Bridge, Kentucky

High Bridge is a small unincorporated community in Jessamine County, Kentucky, United States. It lies along the lower reaches of the Kentucky River near the confluence of the Dix River with the Kentucky. It is noted for a very high railroad bridge over the Kentucky River nearby which gives the community its name, and for a brand of bottled water named for the community which depicts the bridge on its label. Highbridge Springs water is also well-known to the University of Kentucky Wildcats. The Wildcat mascot is used also on the bottle label to show support to the team. The bottle name is Swish. The Kentucky River runs through a deep gorge for much of the lower portion of its length and most of the bridges over it in the area are relatively high ones.

The bridge was opened in 1877 and was the first cantilever bridge in North America. It stands 275 feet over the Kentucky River Palisades. The American Society of Civil Engineers has designated it an engineering landmark. Trains still frequently use this bridge.
