The Land Rover G4 Challenge is a global adventure competition with off road driving at its core, run in support of the
International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies .The 2008/09
Land Rover G4 Challenge – the third since the event’s inauguration in 2003 – opened for recruitment at the start of 2008 and will culminate in a three-week Challenge Finals event centred aroundMongolia in mid-2009, when competitors from 18 different Nations will be tested to their physical and mental limits.election
The 18-month programme begins with National Selections in each participating nation, followed by an International Selections event at
Eastnor Castle in theUK in February 2009 with the Challenge Finals taking place over three weeks in June 2009. Each stage of the Challenge includes athletic activities such asmountain biking ,kayaking ,rock-climbing ,trail running and rope work as well as off-road driving and strategic challenges.Launch
In 2003 the first Land Rover G4 Challenge launched with 16 participating nations and was won by Belgian fighter pilot Rudi Thoelen. The Challenge was held again in 2006, with 18 participating nations, and
South Africa n adventure racer Martin Dreyer was the eventual winner. Dreyer recalled:“The Land Rover G4 Challenge was the best experience of my life. I mean, nothing has come close to it in terms of the enormity of it. The experience was out of this world.”
Partnership
In 2007, the Land Rover G4 Challenge announced a partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which will see the programme aim to generate more than £1 million over the course of the next two Challenges.
