Tripterygiidaeand only member of the genus"Ucla", found in the Pacific Oceanfrom Viet Nam, the Philippines, Palauand the Caroline Islandsto Papua New Guinea, Australia(including Christmas Island), and the Solomon Islands, Fiji, Tonga, east to American Samoaand Rapa, at depths of between 2 and 41 m. Its length is up to about 47 mm.
The largemouth triplefin is found in caves, crevices and on flat surfaces of
coral, sponges or rubble with algae.
