Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Visakhapatam

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vizagapatam, is an Archdiocese of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic church in India. The Archdiocese is the metropolitan of 5 dioceses: Diocese of Eluru, Diocese of Guntur, Diocese of Nellore, Diocese of Srikakulum, and the Diocese of Vijaywada.

History

Erected in 1850 as the Vicariate Apostolic of Vizagapatam, the Vicariate was elevated to a full diocese in 1886. In 1950, the diocese was renamed to the diocese of Visakhapatam, In 2001, the diocese was elevated to an Archdiocese.
