Kirkhamgate

Kirkhamgate

Kirkhamgate (gbmapping|SE300224) is a small village, a few miles north-west of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England.

At the top of Jaw Hill, behind the waterworks and farm, is a field with a suspected Roman marching camp in it. This was partially excavated in the late 1990s for the construction of a pipeline. However, many items were missed by the surveyors and archaeologists, such as possible sunken structures a short distance away and bell pits on top of the camp, post-dating the camp. Former Bradford City "legend" Chris Kamara is said to live in Kirkhamgate.
