Government Central Textile Institute is a quite old and reputed institute in Kanpur with courses in Textile Technology. The need and importance for this institute dates back to the days when Kanpur was called Manchester of the East. From the house of JK Group, there existed factories ranging from JK Rayon to JK Cotton and so on, which consistently needed experts catered by this institute.
Now most students head towards textile centres like Jamnagar or Surat in Gujarat or Ludhiana in Punjab after passing out, as most of the textile factories in Kanpur have shut down.
