Australian Clearinghouse for Youth Studies

Australian Clearinghouse for Youth Studies, also known as ACYS, is a not-for-profit project based at the University of Tasmania, and publishes the scholarly journal, "Youth Studies Australia", books on contemporary youth issues.

Its prime news medium is the email newsletter, "Youth Field Xpress" and the ACYS website which has been online since 1995.

ACYS target audience includes youth workers and youth researchers, as well as policymakers, educators, health workers, parents and students, and anyone with the interests of youth at heart. Online resources include the journal "Youth Studies Australia" in full text (for subscribers only) and free resources on its website such as a guide to youth studies courses in Australia, research tools for youth studies, an events calendar, topics guide, and bibliographies, including a bibliography on Australian clearinghouses relevant to youth studies.

History of ACYS: With its origins in the early 1980s as the "National Clearinghouse for Youth Studies Bulletin" based at the Australian National University, the clearinghouse moved to the University of Tasmania after a national bidding process in 1984. Following this move, the "National Clearinghouse for Youth Studies Bulletin and Abstracts" was distributed on a subscription basis. In 1989 after a change of staff, the bulletin was redesigned and re-launced as a journal, "Youth Studies". A year later the journal's title was amended to its current title, "Youth Studies Australia". In 1998, the National Clearinghouse for Youth Studies became the Australian Clearinghouse for Youth Studies or ACYS. (Source: Flyer about the clearinghouse published in 1995.)

The clearinghouse is partly funded through grants from the Australian Federal Government (Youth Bureau, Department of Families, Communities and Indigenous Affairs). ACYS supplements its income by undertaking book design, book production and book publishing for other academic bodies and small publishers.
