History

Marshall opened on August 15, 2002 and was dedicated on October 13 of the same year [2].

Marshall is known for its outstanding athletics program. The football team has won Back-to -Back District Championships and has had over 50 of its football players receive scholarships to play college football over the last four years. The 2010-12 graduating class of Marshall seems to have great potential in basketball. The class of 2011 have a lot of great athletes from junior varsity and varsity football team.

Marshall is magnetized for its three career academies, Electronic Engineering (EE), Geographical Information Systems (GIS), and Fire Science Technology. The EE Academy's FIRST Robotics team has received distinguished honors from FIRST in its three years of existence. In the Fall of 2009 they are proposed to open the first International Baccalaureate program in Fort Bend Independent School District.

The Air Force JROTC Unit at Thurgood Marshall High School has earned the 2009-2010 Distinguished Unit Award. Only 10 percent of the nation’s 884 Air Force JROTC units received the designation this year, including 10 other units in the state of Texas. The award recognizes Air Force JROTC units that have performed above and beyond normal expectations and distinguished themselves through outstanding service to their school and community while meeting the program’s mission of producing better citizens for America. With the honor comes the added bonus of an invitation to nominate three juniors for appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy, and one each to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

During the 2009-2010 school year Marshall was rated as a recognized school for the first time in school history.
