State Route 87 is a 65 mile long route that extends from Troy in Pike County to the Florida state line in Geneva County. After crossing the state line, it continues as Florida State Road 81. Other cities and towns along the route include Elba, and Samson.

The southern terminus of SR-87 is at the Florida state line south of Fairview. The route begins in Troy at U.S. Highway 231 and passes through the city before entering the more rural areas of south, central Alabama before assuming a southern trajectory to its southern terminus.

It has been mentioned by county officials that a Dollar General store will be built in August or September 2008 at a Chevron in the Spring Hill projects area. With a traffic light at the intersection of the main road and county roads in front of the store. Officials will know when there be more on this subject.
