Ghazi al-Jabali

Ghazi al-Jabali was the Gaza Strip Chief of the Preventive Security Service, appointed by the Palestinian Authority. According to The New York Times, he was locally known as Yasser Arafat's "enforcer" in the Gaza Strip, taking a tough line on Arafat's critics. Since 1994 he has been the target of repeated attacks by Palestinians.
*In February 2004, a gunfight erupted between his police officers and forces loyal to Mohammed Dahlan, a former intimate of Yasser Arafat. One police officer was killed and 10 other people were wounded.
*In March 2004, his offices were targeted by gunfire.
*In April 2004, a bomb was detonated destroying the front of his house.
*In July 2004, he was kidnapped at the at gunpoint following an ambush of his convoy and wounding of two bodyguards. He was released several hours later. [http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=worldNews&storyID=5691768 (Reuters)]

Following his kidnapping on July 17, 2004, al-Jabali was dismissed from his post by Yasser Arafat.
