History of Simon Fraser University
- History of Simon Fraser University
Simon Fraser University (SFU) was created in March 1963 following a provincial government report recommending a new university be opened in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. Construction began in spring 1964 and was completed for the fall 1965 semester. The largely undeveloped Burnaby Mountain in Burnaby was chosen as a the campus site. A firm lead by Arthur Erickson designed the campus. SFU opened campuses in downtown Vancouver in 1980 and in Surrey in 2002, moving to Central City in 2006. [Simon Fraser University (2006). Crimes on CampusThroughout the decades, there have been one unexplainable crime on the Burnaby campus. Three students who lived in the residential areas of the university have mysteriously disappeared on April 1971, six years after the university opened to the public. Allison Mclovin, Linda Rosenberg, and Alan Dubtsy were the three students who disappeared on the night of April. Friends and classmates described to the RCMP that they were last seen leaving a party from a friend's party in the residential area at 2 am. After the departure from the party, no one saw them again. Their disappearances were not noticed until friends and family could not connect them. No one was held responsible of the disappearences since the RCMP could not find inadequate evidences, and no bodies were found.
