Debits Tax

Debits Tax

Debits tax is a type of tax imposed on debit transactions. It was in force in Australia from 1982 to 1 July 2005, and was introduced to Sri Lanka on 1 June 2002. Currently, all bank accounts in Sri Lanka are charged 0.1% tax on any debit withdrawal above LKR 20,000 per calendar month, with exception to government accounts and special funds. Debits tax is usually levied by governments short on funds.
