"Lobotomia" is a Brazilian hardcore/crossover band. They started off as a straight-forward punk band, and later went to a more thrash metal and crossover thrash style. They were one of the key and most well-known bands of the 1980s hardcore punk scene in Brazil, and played with other famous bands such as Korzus, Ratos de Porão, and Executer.

Biography

Beginning

Lobotomia formed in 1984 in São Paulo as a raw hardcore band in the vein of the UK 82 generation. At the time, the members of the band were "Caio" on vocals, "Billy Adherbal" on guitars, "Alfredo" on bass, and "Grego" on drums. They recorded at the "Cólera" studio, releasing a demo tape they recorded there shortly after.

In 1985, they appeared in the Ataque Sonoro compilation, with Ratos de Porão, Cólera, and Garotos Podres, among others.

After this appearance, they had a change in the line up, with the female bassist "Zezé" replacing "Alfredo". With this line up, they recorded and released their self-titled debut LP in 1986. The album is very much hardcore punk, but with some thrash metal influences appearing, especially on guitar works.

In 1988, the band suffered more line up changes, with the departure of bassist "Zezé" and vocalist "Caio". In their places joined "Flavinho" and "Marcão" respectively, together with a second guitarist, "Paulão". With this line up, they released their second album Nada É Como Parece (stands for "nothing is like it seems") in 1989. Much more crossover, the album has a much closer sound to bands like D.R.I. than pure hardcore.

Shortly after the release of Nada É Como Parece and an accompanying tour, the band split up in 1992.

Reunion

In 2005, Lobotomia reformed, performing gigs and recording a new studio album planned for release in 2008.

"Grego" made contacts with the old members to come back with the band, with "Marcão", "Billy Adherbal", and "Paulão" returning. To complete the line up, bassist "Christian Fralda" (ex-"Ratos de Porão") joined the band.
