Tsunami (political)

Political tsunami is an American term or idiom used to describe an ovewhelming victory by one political party over another. The origin of this term or who coined the term is unknown.

The first use of "political tsunami" was by noted political analysts such as Chris Matthews, Tim Russert, Bob Shrum, and James Carville to name a few. They used this to describe the most probable outcome of the general midterm election of November 7, 2006, when the Democratic Party swept the Republican Party out of power in both the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate.
