Eagle Supermarkets

Eagle Supermarkets

Eagle Supermarkets was a grocery chain in Houston, Texas that operated until March 1985. The chain was owned by California-based Lucky Stores, and it held a 6 percent market share and had 1,100 employees before leaving the area.

History

Of the 22 Houston-area stores, seven of the stores were sold to Rice Food Markets (which boosted its store count to 36), six were sold to Gerland's Food Fair (which boosted its store count to 20) and two became Fiesta Mart. Five stores became independent retailers supplied by Affiliated Foods of Keller, Texas. The remaining two stores were closed. The chain's 496,000-foot distribution center in Northwest Houston was leased to Grocers Supply Co.
