History
The original Community Market opened in 1927, when Louis Rosenberg started his first grocery and general merchandise store in North Bessemer, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh that is now considered Penn Hills. He had worked with his brothers in the grocery business while a young man.
The supermarkets are now operated by second and third generation members of the Rosenberg family.
Giant Eagle stores
The family also owns a Giant Eagle grocery store in Verona. A second Giant Eagle grocery store along Allegheny River Boulevard in Oakmont closed in June 2007.[1]
Major competition
Other grocery stores in Penn Hills include Shop 'n Save and Giant Eagle. A Shur Save store in Penn Hills closed in January 2006.[2]
