Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra
- Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra
The Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra is an orchestra that is based in Fort Myers and Naples. It is Lee County's only professional resident musical organization.
History
The Southwest Florida Symphony began on April 15, 1961 as a community orchestra. At the time, it was conducted by Arlo Deibler. The symphony had 24 musicians and performed in community centers and schools. In 1962, the Symphony Chorus formed, and the organization became known as the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra and Chorus Association. After conducting the symphony for 25 years, Maestro Deibler passed the baton to Jeseph Egger. Egger conducted for four years and in 1990 Paul Nadler became the new Music Director and Conductor. Paul Nadler completed his tenure in 2006, and in May 2007, Michael Hall was selected as music director and conductor.
Concert Series
The Orchestra performs six different concert series: Classical, Pops, Stained Glass, Sanibel, Around Town, and the Youth Series.
Young Musicians
The Orchestra strives to enrich the musical education of youth in the area. It branches out a Children's Chorus and a youth orchestra, the Southwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra.
