Lawrence D. Brown (born 1940) is Miers Busch Professor and Professor of Statistics at the
Wharton School of theUniversity of Pennsylvania inPhiladelphia ,Pennsylvania . Professor Brown has had a very distinguished career. He was educated at theCalifornia Institute of Technology andCornell University , where he earned his Ph.D. in 1964. He has earned numerous honors, including election to theUnited States National Academy of Sciences , and has published widely. He was president of theInstitute of Mathematical Statistics in 1992-93.After having been assistant professor at
University of California Berkley , associate professor atCornell University , and professor atCornell University andRutgers University , he was invited to join the Department of Statistics at theWharton School of theUniversity of Pennsylvania .Brown's wife,
Linda Zhao , has since become the only woman to be granted tenure within the Department of Statistics at theWharton School of theUniversity of Pennsylvania .External links
